# Community Notes

> Who can write, rate and appeal notes, and how they're scored.

Community Notes use the pinned client's own viewing, writing and rating screens.

## Writing access

Admins grant or revoke **Community Notes writing access** under a user's Access section. Writing is denied by default and enforced server-side.

Contributors have random aliases independent of their handles.

## Requesting and rating

* Signed-in active users can request notes and rate other people's notes.
* Authors can't rate their own notes.
* Requests and ratings are deduplicated.
* Blocked accounts can't interact through notes.

## Removing notes

Authors can delete their notes. Admins and moderators can remove notes, and staff removals are recorded in the audit log.

## Scoring

A note on a misleading post is shown as context when it has:

* at least five active ratings, and
* a 95% Wilson lower bound above 50%.

Ratings from suspended accounts are excluded.

> [!NOTE]

> This is not X's matrix-factorization scoring. Media-match notes and automated translation are not implemented.

## Appeals

Authors can appeal a Not Helpful note at `/account/notes/appeals`. Admins and moderators review appeals there, and decisions are recorded in the audit log. A staff decision doesn't change the reader score.
