# Features

> What works in Xitter today.

## Posting

* Posts, replies, quotes, reposts, likes, bookmarks (with folders), pinned posts, pinned replies, highlights, @mentions and hashtags.
* Editing posts, polls (with a photo on each choice), places and long-form articles.
* Scheduled threads of up to 26 posts. They publish together; failed threads retry, and permanent failures return the whole thread to drafts. Each account can queue 100 future posts.
* Who can reply: everyone, followed accounts, verified accounts or mentioned accounts.
* Images, GIFs and video (converted with ffmpeg), alt text and content warnings on media.
* Sticker packs made by staff, picked from a button beside the composer's emoji button.
* Branded hashtags: for a set time, liking a post with the hashtag plays a custom Lottie animation and the hashtag shows an emoji.
* Conversation cards with up to four hashtag buttons, prefilled post text, a title and one image, GIF or video.
* YouTube links become player cards that play from youtube-nocookie.com.

## Profiles and accounts

* Profiles with all their tabs, editing, follows and followers.
* Protected accounts with follow requests, and "About this account" with the country or region it is based in.
* Invite-only sign-up with a required email, proven with a mailed 6-digit code when [email](/self-hosting/email) is set up.
* Several signed-in accounts, pride flag badges, and organisations with affiliates.
* Password and username changes, language, deactivation (reactivates on sign-in within 30 days).
* Two-factor sign-in with an authenticator app and backup codes, and passkeys.
* Sessions list with revoke, and account access history.
* Downloadable JSON and offline HTML data archives.
* Dim and custom themes, including gradients, per-token colours and Google Fonts (Settings > Display or `/account/theme`).
* [Moving an account](/self-hosting/moving-accounts) between instances.
* Import from X (off by default): upload the archive x.com makes, and posts, threads, photos, videos and the profile come over with their original dates.

## Timelines and discovery

* A ranked "For you" and a chronological "Following" timeline.
* Search with X's operators, including full federated handles.
* Trends, including trends by location, and Explore with staff-written news and sports cards.
* Topics defined by staff with keywords, which people can follow.
* Who to follow and "You might like", ranked by shared follows, plus uploaded contacts.
* Lists (with banners) and communities (rules, members, moderation tools, banners and topics).

## Notifications and messages

* Notifications with unread counts and browser push.
* The profile bell, and turning off an account's reposts.
* End-to-end encrypted direct messages, with [key backup](/self-hosting/encrypted-chat).
* Email digests of activity and new messages, sent while you're away.

## Safety

* Blocks, mutes and muted words.
* Reporting posts and accounts.
* [Community Notes](/administration/community-notes).
* An [automod](/administration/automod) and staff labels under posts.
* Rate limits per account and address.

## Other

* Account analytics from the instance's own counts.
* Link previews (OpenGraph, Twitter card tags and oEmbed) for public posts and profiles.
* A [public API](/api/overview) with personal tokens and OAuth 2 apps.
