Xitter hosts a pinned build of the official X web client from your own domain and answers its API from PostgreSQL. The real x.com interface runs against your own instance. The client itself is not part of the Xitter repository. Each instance downloads its own copy during setup, and the copy stays on that machine.

Quickstart

Run an instance on your own machine.

Docker Compose

Run Xitter and PostgreSQL in containers.

Federation

Connect your instance to other Xitter instances.

Public API

Read and post from scripts, bots and apps.

What you get

  • The real X interface: posting, replies, quotes, reposts, likes, bookmarks, polls, lists, communities, articles, Explore and trends.
  • End-to-end encrypted direct messages, with optional key backup.
  • Community Notes, moderation tools, an automod and an admin panel at /admin.
  • Federation with other Xitter instances on a shared list.
  • Moving accounts between instances.
  • A public JSON API with personal tokens and OAuth 2 apps.
See Features for the full list.

Community
